Spring Term 1

In Reception this term we are very busy with our new learning.

In our Read Write Inc sessions we are learning the 44 sounds and are beginning to blend them to make words and segment them to read words. We are learning to form our letters correctly in our new handwriting books.

In our Mathematics Mastery we are learning to count, recognise and use numbers up to 10. We are learning to say which is one more and one greater, and also one less and one fewer than given numbers. We are learning to use full sentences to talk about the days of the week, months of the year and the weather. We are also learning to describe shapes.

In our Literacy we are listening to winter stories from the Percy the Park Keeper series, written by Nick Butterworth. We are learning to retell stories and act them out in our small world and role play.  Outside we have our very own Percy’s Hut.

In our prime areas we are learning about the importance of good health and eating a healthy diet. We are learning to make different foods and drink in our workshop area including crumpets, hot chocolate, toast and baked potatoes. We will continue to look at similarities and differences between ourselves and others, and among families, communities and traditions.

In our creative areas we are learning to blend colours, experience different textures and join materials in different ways.

In ict we are continuing to learn about the importance of keeping safe whilst online. And using different types of technology and programmes.

Every week in our Learning Journals we have activities to support our learning which, with parents/carers support can be completed at home.
