Family Support

How We Can Help

At Boughton Leigh Infant School we understand that children thrive when they feel safe, supported, and understood. Sometimes, families may experience changes or challenges that can affect a child's wellbeing, emotions, confidence, or ability to learn.

Miss Smelt our Pupil and Family Mentor is here to provide support for children and families and to work alongside parents and carers to ensure every child receives the help they need.

Emotional Support in School

Children may need additional support for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Worries or anxiety
  • Friendship difficulties
  • Changes at home
  • Bereavement or loss
  • Separation or divorce
  • Low confidence or self-esteem
  • Emotional regulation difficulties
  • Attendance concerns
  • Transitions and change

Miss Smelt can provide a listening ear and offer individual support to help children develop strategies to manage their feelings and build resilience.

Sharing Important Family Updates

We encourage parents and carers to keep us informed of any significant changes in family circumstances that may impact their child.

Examples may include:

  • A family bereavement
  • Separation or divorce
  • Illness within the family
  • Changes to living arrangements
  • New siblings
  • Housing difficulties
  • Any other circumstance that may affect a child's emotional wellbeing

By sharing this information with us, we can better understand your child's needs and provide appropriate support in school. All information will be treated sensitively and confidentially.

Support for Families

The Pupil and Family Mentor can:

  • Offer advice and guidance to parents and carers
  • Help families access support services
  • Signpost to local and national organisations
  • Support communication between home and school
  • Assist with attendance and wellbeing concerns
  • Provide information about parenting and family support services

Where appropriate, we can help families access additional support from external agencies and professionals.

Signposting to External Agencies

Every family's circumstances are unique. If further support is needed, we may be able to signpost or refer families to services such as:

  • Family support services
  • Early Support services
  • Mental health and wellbeing services
  • Young carers support
  • Bereavement support organisations
  • Parenting support programmes
  • Financial and housing advice services

We will always discuss any recommendations with families and work together to identify the most appropriate support.
