  • ROAD SAFETY VISIT

    Mon 29 Jan 2018

After her visit last term to talk to our Reception pupils, Road Safety Officer Kate Castle was in school again last week to give a presentation to Year One.

The focus of her talk was the Road Safety Code – Think, Stop, Look, Listen, Hold Hands. She got the message across to the children with a group of volunteers and props from her “special gold box”.

As members of The Warwickshire Road Safety Club we are entitled to three annual visits from Kate. Next term she will return to speak to Year Two.

  • PUPILS MEET LEADING LITERACY EXPERT

    Thu 25 Jan 2018

The creator of the Read Write Inc phonics scheme we use in school, Ruth Miskin OBE, enjoyed meeting a group of BLIS pupils when she visited our school.

She was here to hold a regional meeting with local head teachers and teachers. But before the formalities began she took time to read to a group of children and work on a one-to-one basis with selected pupils.

  • HOSANNA ROCK

    Wed 20 Dec 2017

Hosanna Rock was performed by Year Two as their Christmas production. The heart-warming rendition of the nativity story showcased the acting and dancing skills of pupils. All the cast gave confident performances and audiences were impressed with the slick production which included some memorable songs.

  • 2000 YEARS AGO

    Fri 15 Dec 2017

Year One's Christmas performance of 2000 Years Ago was a traditional nativity play full of foot-tapping songs and dance routines. All the children clearly enjoyed taking part - but not as much as the proud parents, carers and family members in the audience enjoyed watching the show!

  • WHOOPS A DAISY ANGEL

    Wed 13 Dec 2017

The run up to Christmas started in school with Reception's performance of Whoops A Daisy Angel, the story of a disorganised but loveable angel chosen to show the way to Bethlehem.

Considering the young age of the pupils they gave a very impressive performance, remembering all their words and singing loudly with confidence.

  • PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL AWARD

    Thu 09 Nov 2017

The work we are doing in school to enable all pupils to be the best they can be and achieve their full potential has been recognised with a prestigious national award.

Developed by leading educational charity Achievement for All (AfA), the Quality Lead Award is for ongoing initiatives to improve progress in reading, writing and maths for all pupils, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities.

We have been working in partnership with AfA since 2014, following a programme which provides better educational outcomes for the lowest achieving 20 per cent of pupils. Last year we were presented with their Quality Mark.

To achieve Quality Lead status, we were assessed in various categories including strategic planning, quality of teaching and learning, effective use of interventions, pupil progress and community relationships. We were thrilled to receive a glowing report from Achievement for All’s Sue Burrows who reviewed the work going on at BLIS. She says:

“We are delighted to present Boughton Leigh Infant School with this prestigious award – a real stamp of quality for their high standards in leadership, teamwork, quality of teaching and pupil progress. The target groups we have been working with have made more than expected progress and are closing the gap with their peers.

“However, it’s not just the target groups who have made significant progress. Our programmes are designed to be a whole school improvement tool and Boughton Leigh Infant School has shown a continued commitment and success in improving outcomes for all children across the whole school…”

“AfA believes that every child can progress, and through our programmes we hope to enable every child to be the best that they can be regardless of background, challenge, or need. Huge congratulations to teachers, parents and children at Boughton Leigh Infant School for all their hard work. A truly deserved award.”

  • BREAD MAKING THEME FOR HARVEST FESTIVAL

    Tue 10 Oct 2017

Once again our local church was full for our annual Harvest festival, this year led by two former members of staff Mrs Hopkin and Mrs Edmondson. The theme was "Give us this day our daily bread"  and the children enjoyed their double-act demonstration of bread making, highlighting all the people involved in providing us with a loaf of bread. It was a very entertaining and informative presentation.

The children enjoyed singing the seasonal songs they have been practising for weeks and those who took part in year group presentations spoke confidently and clearly.

Thank you to everyone who attend the service and also sent in donations for our Harvest Appeal for Rugby Foodbank. We were able to give an impressive number of tins, jars and packets to this worthy cause.

  • GARDENING AWARD PRESENTATION

    Tue 26 Sep 2017

Members of the Gardening Club have been presented with a prestigious prize at the Rugby in Bloom School Gardening Awards.

They went to The Benn Hall to receive a Platinum Award for the school's entry in the 2017 competition, which had the 80th anniversary of the first testing of Sir Frank Whittle's jet engine as its theme.

The centre piece of the display created by the children was a large planter in the shape of an aeroplane. It was filled with plants they grew from seed.

  • RUTH MISKIN VISIT

    Thu 14 Sep 2017

The children have started their daily reading and writing sessions which follow the Read Write Inc. Phonics literacy programme developed by Ruth Miskin OBE.

As one of the UK’s leading authorities on teaching reading, Ruth has many years’ experience as a Head teacher, teacher trainer and consultant in phonics and literacy.

She believes that the more quickly children learn to read, the more they want to read and the more they understand and the less they struggle with spelling.

We are very proud to have been chosen as one of the schools she will visit this academic year and we look forward to welcoming her to BLIS on 28th September.

The more help and encouragement the children get at home the more they will achieve, so please do all you can to work with us and support your child’s reading.

  • PRESTIGIOUS PLATINUM PRIZE PRESENTATION

    Wed 06 Sep 2017

Members of the school’s Gardening Club are looking forward to being presented with a prestigious Platinum Award for their entry in this year’s Rugby in Bloom competition at a special event on September 20th.

The theme of the competition was the 80th anniversary of the first successful test of Sir Frank Whittle’s jet engine in Rugby in 1937.

In recognition of this historic event, the Gardening Club used an old canoe as the basis of a planter in the shape of a jet engine. They also recycled a broken suitcase to grow strawberries and sweet peas.

The display was judged by Rugby Borough Council’s Parks & Grounds Manager, Chris Worman MBE who was very impressed with what he saw. He says:

" I always look forward to Visiting Boughton Leigh Infant School to see what gardening projects the children have been working on. This year was no exception and I was blown away with the re-creation of a meteor jet engine to link into this year's theme."

"The children were keen to show me all the things that they were growing and we were even treated to a large dragon fly hovering around the pond whilst judging. It is a privilege to visit as they clearly love being outside and it is a great space for them to learn."
