Autumn Term 1

Our topic for Autumn Term 1 is 'Ourselves'

In Yellow class this week we have been to Gruffalo Wood to toast marshmallows and observe the change. We also looked at the environment and how it changes with the seasons. We have been using ICT safely and appropriately and with a little support In maths our target  was to find a total by adding two numbers together. We have used a variety of resources to do this such as teddies, skittles, dice and even counting children. In literacy we have been concentrating on initial sounds. We have been matching pictures to their initial sounds and making books. Our story of the week was The Tiger who came to tea.

To be creative we have made tiger collages with tissue paper stripes.

Outside we continued to create a repeating pattern using blocks, bricks and anything else we may find.

In the  ICT suite this week we have continued to focus on mouse control using a creative programme to drag and drop shapes to make a picture of our own design which we then printed.

In PE we have been travelling along benches and learning to land safely when we jump off equipment.

Well done to Bianca who won the handwriting award for Yellow class.

Congratulations to Abigail who was our learning hero Polly Planner this week for creating repeating patterns using cubes, ICT and colouring and to Bianca who was a Charlie Challenge for challenging herself to learn all of her single letter sounds.

In Yellow class this week we have been learning about technology and the different types and uses of technology that can be used both at home and at school. We have been thinking about and using a toaster to share a piece of toast with a friend. We have been using ICT safely and appropriately and with a little support. In maths our target was to create a repeating pattern. We have used a variety of resources to do this and we have been challenged to create patterns using shapes and colours. In literacy we have been concentrating on rhyme and finding rhyming pairs and trying to complete a rhyming string, we have also tried to complete a 'silly sentence' started by the teacher, e.g. The cat in a hat.

To be creative we have painted our minion models.

In PE we have been learning to travel in different ways around the hall, moving forwards, backwards and sideways on our feet, knees, backs and tummies.

In Yellow class this week we have been looking at and talking about differences and similarities we encomparing ourselves with our friends, we have been playing 'dominoes' and 'find the pair' to help us to take turns and support our learning, on our graphics table we have been able to draw, colour and cut out minions to help develop our fine motor skills. In Literacy we have read the book  'Long Live King Bob' a story about minions, on the graphics table we independently wrote cvc words linking sounds to letters that we have been learning in phonics on minion mats, some of us did really well, we also drew pictures of our favourite minion and labelled them. In Maths this week we have been learning all about 2D and 3D shapes we talked about the different properties and how to recognise them, to support and extend our knowledge  we went on a 2D shape hunt in the classroom and played different games, Shape Bingo and Guess the Shape, we drew shape animals on our graphics table.

In our creative work we have been making minions from clay which is a hard medium to use, we are waiting for them to dry and then we will be able to paint them.

In our outdoor classroom we have been on a 3D shape hunt recording the amount of and type of shapes we found.

Congratulations to Caoimhe who won the Handwriting award for Yellow class.

In Yellow class this week we have  been listening for familiar and unfamiliar sounds using QR codes and iPads for sound bingo we have been looking at keeping safe on the internet and how we can remind others to do the same.  We also went to Gruffalo Wood one of our amazing outdoor areas to find fallen leaves and to listen to the sound they made when we crushed them in our hands and under our feet we also collected some for our creative work.  In Maths this week we have been learning about 1 more than, we used many different resources, socks on a washing line, cakes and counters we also used a programme 'Topmarks' on the smart board to reinforce our learning, on our graphics table we had to find the missing house numbers to complete a number line to twenty.  In Literacy we read the book 'Peace at last' by Jill Murphy she is one of our favourite authors, we talked about what happened to Daddy bear in the beginning, middle and end of the story, we then used pictures from the story to sort into the correct order, we played different games listening for initial sounds in simple words some of us were able to hear medial and final sound as well.

In our creative work we all helped to make harvest baskets using straws and mixing paint to create different shades of brown.  In the afternoon we could choose to decorate pictures of hedgehogs with different textures and medium using some of the leaves we had collected.

In our outside learning area as the weather has been fantastic, we continued with big construction some of us built a castle for one of the adults and decorated it, and the adult with different fabrics.

On Friday we went to church to celebrate harvest we sang songs and showed our harvest baskets.

We would like to congratulate Phoebe for winning the handwriting award for Yellow class 'well done Phoebe'

Well done Yellow class for settling in well, it has been a very exciting, getting to make new friends and learning new routines, we drew pictures of ourselves and our families and talked about similarities and differences we also chose a safe person to whom we can go to if we feel sad or worried about anything at school. This week we have been learning in Green classroom and Red classroom as well as Yellow classroom and meeting new adults.

In our Prime areas we looked at keeping ourselves healthy we investigated different foods and thought about whether they were healthy or not so healthy we talked about which foods we should eat everyday and food we should only eat a little of.  We investigated 'busy things' a software package on the computers and used this to complete problem solving games. In our workshop we have been practicing washing our hands so as not to spread germs and making sure they are dry, we also enjoyed having a healthy snack, drink and a chat with our friends and adults in our snack area. In maths we have been learning to count carefully and not to rush numbers up to 20 using one number for one object, using different resources. In Literacy we read the book 'Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy a story about a bear who goes to the Moon and has a picnic, we talked about the foods we would like to take on a picnic to the moon with our friends and whether they were healthy or unhealthy we then cut out pictures of our favourite foods and put them on a plate.

We used the bikes and scooters in the playground on our pretend road. We used the Builder's Yard in our outside learning area and did lots of large construction. We have been in the computer suite and were shown how to use the computers safely. When we went on the Library Bus we chose a library book to take home to share with our families and listened to a story read by one of our Teachers. For PE we have been learning to get changed by ourselves and to ask for help should we need it. Then in the hall we learnt to find a space, move safely at different speeds and follow instructions.

In our creative work we have painted different fruits to go in our harvest basket to take to church next week for the Harvest Service. We have set up an Autumn table in our workshop where we can put any nuts, leaves and natural objects that we find that might interest our friends.

Congratulations to Mollie who won the handwriting award for Yellow class this week, keep up the good work.
